B-Sides Episode 6: Story Seller

Story Seller (스토리셀러)
Members: Binna (vocals), Hobak (bass), Eunyoung (guitar), Jihae (drums)
As Korean indie bands get more attention both at home and overseas, the competition gets more cutthroat and the listeners more critical and unforgiving. All-female band Story Seller would know. Formerly known as Bloody Cookie, this female quartet has managed to stay alive in Korea’s indie scene for over 8 years, but it hasn’t been easy. In addition to being women in what is generally viewed as a man’s sport, along with a few member changes, Story Seller has transitioned from hardcore rock to a more mainstream pop-rock and now, finally, what they call their own genre of post-modern punk rock. They’ve got a new album dropping soon and with their headlining tour across Japan and Europe this winter, it seems Story Seller is right on track to breaking any and all stereotypes thrown their way. Fans of Story Seller praise founder Binna’s versatile vocals, and the members’ composure and presence onstage, a confidence that can only be found in truly seasoned musicians. With their rough and tough image comes a resounding sensibility found in their lyrics that tackle topics like love, sex, and power — from the woman’s point of view.
