PSY’s Summer Stand 2012: The Drenched Show

August 16, 2012

After the viral response to “Gangnam Style” in the past few weeks, we should have known that this year’s Summer Stand concert, titled The Drenched Show, wouldn’t be just another one of PSY‘s epic concerts.

On Saturday, August 11, 2012, concert organizers added hundreds of additional seats to Jamshil Stadium (they even had to remove the soccer goal posts at the back of the stadium) to accomodate the unprecedented number of people who came out for PSY’s annual summer concert.

The outdoor concert lasted three and a half hours, packed with one-of-a-kind performances of PSY’s biggest hits, like the water cannon shows for “Right Now” and “I’m This Kind of Person” (which PSY had written for DJ DOC) and the huge diaper-donning PSY blow-up for “Tree Frog.” Staying true to his reputation for outrageous concerts, the rapper parodied SISTAR (as PSASTAR) and Lady Gaga (as Lady Sasa), sending the crowd into fits of unstoppable laughter. Special guests for the night included “ballad prince” Sung Si Kyung, comedian and good friend Noh Hong Chul, and 2NE1.

The venue was filled with Korean fans and international fans alike, as well as dozens of news crews from CNN, ABC, the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Discovery Channel and other major media outlets who flew in to experience the PSY craze firsthand. Aware of all the international attention he’s been getting recently, he proudly told his fans, “Show [these reporters] that although I might be ridiculous, that you are amazing!”

For those fans who couldn’t make the trip out to Seoul for Summer Stand: The Drenched Show, fret not, because MBC will be airing the entire concert this Fall as a special for the Chuseok holiday weekend (Korean Thanksgiving). In the meantime, check out photos from Summer Stand 2012 above!
