On May 12, over 30,000 K-pop fans piled into Seoul’s World Cup Stadium for the 18th Annual “I Love Korea” Dream Concert, armed with lightsticks, placards, and balloons of all colors. Hosted by 2PM’s Taecyeon, KARA’s Seungyeon, and ZE:A’s Siwan, this year’s Dream Concert was split into two acts, lasting a total of 3 hours with live performances from over 20 artists.
The first annual Dream Concert was held back in 1995, established as a way for Korea’s top artists to encourage young Korean children to reach for their dreams. This year’s concert kicked off with all the artists singing TVXQ’s “Balloons,” which fit the event’s theme perfectly as the idols mingled amongst themselves onstage, much to the delight of the fans.
The first half of the concert boasted performances by Boyfriend, A Pink, EXO-K, Davichi, Teen Top, SECRET, Ailee, 4Minute, 2AM, MBLAQ, and BEAST, with KARA, B1A4, RaNia, ZE:A, T-ara, SISTAR, Girls’ Generation’s Taetiseo (TTS), Infinite, 2PM, and TVXQ filling out the second half. Special stages from the night included Teen Top’s cover of Shinhwa’s “T.O.P,” A Pink’s cover of Wonder Girls’ “Tell Me,” EXO-K’s cover of “Sorry Sorry,” and T-ara and ZE:A’s joint performance of “Lovey Dovey.”
