You Don’t See That Every Day: 6 MVs With Uncommon Visuals

Music videos tend to fall under one of three categories: performance, storyline or a hybrid of the two. And while we love watching Super Junior dance in “A-CHA” or CNBLUE awkwardly following a girl around her house in “LOVE Girl,” it’s always a welcome change when we’re treated to something a little more visually interesting. Take a look at these seven MVs that aren’t the same old song and dance.

01. LEESSANG ft. TASHA, 10 CM‘S KWON JUNGYEOL – “I TURNED OFF THE TV” MV

“I Turned Off the TV” utilizes stop motion animation with live actors, similar to the MV for Oren Lavie‘s “Her Morning Elegance.”

02. LUCIA ft. EPITONE PROJECT– “LIKE A FLOWER, WILL YOU ONLY LOVE ME FOR A SEASON?” MV

Even with a completely different style of art and animation, this MV brings to mind a Miyazaki-esque journey through an enchanted forest.

03. 2NE1 – “HATE YOU” MV

Graphic artist Mari Kim directed the animated “Hate You” MV, and also designed the cover art for 2NE1′s “I Am the Best” with her unique pop-surrealist style.

04. PRIMARY ft. GAEKO, ZION.T – “SEE THROUGH” MV

Vivid colors bring a dark club bar to life in “See Through,” helped along of course by some handy green screen and chroma-key.

05. G-DRAGON (BIG BANG) – “BUTTERFLY” MV

If the “Like a Flower…” MV is like Miyazaki journey, “Butterfly” is a trip to Alice’s Wonderland with a blend of animation and live acting.

06. THE BAITS – “SUNSHINE GIRL” MV

This MV for The Baits’ “Sunshine Girl” won the 2010 Seoul Creative Animation Award for the Yamamba graphic design studio who created its stunning visuals.
