This week, during their US promotional tour around radio stations and media headquarters, the Wonder Girls stopped in NYC for a quick concert at iHeartRadio Theater. Of course, the fivesome brought down the house with performances of all of their hits, but they even performed a few special unreleased English singles.
After a few high-energy selections like “The DJ is Mine” and “Like This,” the ladies of Wonder brought out stools for the first of their new English gems. First was “Ouch,” a sad pop ballad, which features a repetitive hook that goes: “heartbreak / heartache.” In spite of the track being on the slower side, the audience was definitely into it, swaying side to side and cheering pretty loud during the more difficult adlibs.
Next was “Stay Together,” a considerably more optimistic, but equally beautiful ballad. After the song was over, it was revealed that member Yenny wrote it while inspired by the backstory of their Nickelodeon movie earlier this year. Can we just say that if anyone in the room ever had doubts about Yenny and Sun’s live vocal abilities, they were instantly crushed by how quality the two sounded on stage for these two tracks.
Finally, the Wonder Girls performed the last single, the unreleased “Wake Up,” an energetic dance track that dips back into their signature retro style. There were some surprisingly sexy dance moves for this one, though, considering that the girls usually tend to play it safe when it comes to choreography.
In addition to the never-before-heard tracks, the Wonder Girls performed songs that don’t usually get live stage time as well as a few crowd favorites. English club track “Nu Shoes,” and R&B ballad “Girls, Girls,” made their appeances right before the show ended as did back to back hits, “Tell Me,” “So Hot,” “Nobody (English Ver.)” and “Like Money.”
