The underground scene in Hongdae celebrated a new compilation album, thanks to Steel Face Records. Featuring the K-punk rockers of The Swindlers, PATiENTS, The Essence, The Infamous Orchestra as well as non-Steel Face bands like Look and Listen, and Pavlov, August 4 got a kick in the ass by their combined indie showdown.

The album that garnered such festivities, aptly named Steel Face Records Compilation 2012, plays out like a full sampler of the bands at Steel Face. Explaining how the compilation came about, label creator Sumin Jo (who is also the lead vocalist and bassist for the PATiENTS) said that all of his artists wanted to release their own CD singles. And while that would have been super expensive to do, he chose to play it safe instead. “This isn’t a good move in South Korea’s music market nowadays. We decided to just combine everyone’s work and make something together.”

The compilation is a hybrid punk, psychedelic garage band hodgepodge that mashes into an eight-track album, that comes at the price of two songs per Steel Face group. And in honor of the album that was made available online on July 17, the rest of the roster kicked off their creation right at Club FF in Hongdae this past weekend. Smart move Steel Face, smart move.
