In the early morning hours of July 24, 2PM member Nichkhun was involved in a car accident with a motorcyclist in Seoul, South Korea. Registering a blood alcohol content of .056, his license is now currently suspended, and he is on temporary hiatus from activities.

At the moment, Nichkhun is in a state of reflection and will not be attending either JYP Nation concert in Korea or Japan, and will also refrain from participating in JYP Entertainment’s Fan’s Day this August. He issued a heartfelt apology through his official Twitter:

Moments after, JYP Entertainment released a statement apologizing for the incident, and brought to light Nichkhun’s decision to step away from activities for the moment.

Speculation surrounding the accident involving a Mr. Park aged 52, who received hospital treatment for minor injuries, have pointed blame towards both Nichkhun’s poor decisions as well as JYP Entertainment’s apparent lack of foresight. On the night before the accident, JYP staff and the 2PM member went out to a bar where Nichkhun allegedly drank two beers. While it is unknown what legal actions will result against Nichkhun, Chief Jun Byeong Cheon of the Gangnam Police Agency informed enews, “If the motorcycle driver needs more than 10 weeks of treatment we’ll be requesting an arrest warrant, but if he only has a few minor injuries the offender will just get a license suspension, a fine and a need to cover the incident with his insurance.”

In the meantime, further speculation has incurred backlash by netizens due to CCTV’s shocking footage of the accident. At the same time, speculation surrounds former 2PM member Jay Park (who dealt with his own controversy in 2009, forcing his expulsion from the group), who tweeted an ambiguous message that may or may not have to do with the accident.

As we wish for Nichkhun’s eventual return to 2PM’s activities and the motorcyclist’s safe recovery, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on this terrible turn of events.
