Earlier this spring we saw a torrent of idol girl group comebacks. 4Minute, A Pink, Sistar and Girl’s Day appeared with new albums one after another for almost a month. Well, summer’s almost here so brace yourselves; entertainment agencies JYP, YG, SM, CJ E&M, Pledis and Happy Face have released the floodgates for K-pop Girl Groups: The Second Coming.
JYP Entertainment’s Wonder Girls just released hip-hop heavy mini-album Wonder Party on June 3 and will kick off promotions for their lead track “Like This” this week. It has also been reported that the girls are still in negotiations for their US debut.
Even after a rough couple of weeks where they placed dead last in a recent girl-group ranking poll and underwent some member changes, Dal Shabet does their agency name proud with their optimistic outlook. They’re ready to pump up their chart performance with “Mr. Bang Bang” from their first formal album Bang Bang, released on June 6.
f(x) came flying in like a lightning bolt for their June 10 release of Electric Shock. So far, we’ve seen a group concept image and a teaser photo for member Krystal.
2NE1, After School and T-ARA are also lined up for comebacks this summer. YG Entertainment remains as tightlipped as ever about 2NE1’s album progress, but appeased fans slightly with the release of their Intel Ultrabook collaboration song. After School’s comeback will be a little bittersweet in the wake of leader Kahi’s departure this September, but Pledis Entertainment promises to take special care of her upcoming solo career. T-ARA will return on July 7th with “Day by Day” and highly anticipated choreography by Jonte Moaning of “Single Ladies” fame.
